I did a lengthy piece last year on British artist David Hockney, see label. Now at 74 he is back and has been in all the papers giving interviews, smoking defiantly as ever, as he prepares for a major new exhibition opening at the Royal Academy in London in January and running to next April. 'David Hockney - A Bigger Picture' will contain all his new large paintings which he painted here in England up around Bridlington where his parents lived. It makes a marvellous contrast to all those other Hockneys - the pool pictures, the California era, I like the 70s pictures in London (the A BIGGER SPLASH era) and Paris, all those portraits of Celia, Ossie, Peter, Mo and the rest.
Right: Autumn Leaves, in the new exhibition.
David has always been tireless, working continually - and continuing now in his '70s. From the golden boy of the 1960s to now, as he is being called, The Grand Old Man of British Art - following the death of Lucian Freud. He continues to surprise and fascinate, now with his iPad art, as he always followed the latest technology, be it photo-copying or polaroids to the new iPhone and iPad. It will be a very popular exhibition!
